Wrote this on a piano. Perhaps obviously.

I had John Lennon in mind, sonically (it’s ok if you don’t hear it). Lyrically, the emotion is reflective, and the words represent a sort of generational switch/change/…of the guard…of the passing of time. The singer counsels patience, yet reflects at how quickly life slips by. Gotta love the irony that is existence.

Always had a saxophone in mind for the solo. I thought of Mean Streets when considering how it would resonate sonically. My favorite part of this song (while writing it) is the bass part. It was very simple initially; I had only intended to follow the chords. But after Brian did a few takes on the drums, I suggested he just free ball it at the end. Let it swing, let it go.

Later, I compiled a proper take and just love how off center it was. I immediately picked up the bass and just kept sculpting this passing tone of a part. one that moved with the motion and waves of the drums. What an experience it was hearing it come out and work right. Very present tense, meaning that there was no forethought; it was just=go.
