I love the beginning with the guitar and the lyrics. And well done on adding the French in there. So glad to see new music from Chance.

SONG DETAILS

One more kiss gets a piece of my heart
get too close, then we pull it apart
mais no, mais si, mais no, mais si

no regrets gotta see where it goes
I’m the last one left, maybe nobody knows
who gets the prize: surprise, ¡Sorpresa! 驚き!(Odoroki!)

Don’t say you don’t know why
the glass broke, (coz) you’re bleedin’
Don’t cry cause this big car crashed
Don’t ask why we’re speedin’…

B-b-b-b-b Black hole shakedown, case of the blues
I wanna tell you (that I love you but it makes me confused
That’s why, perchè, waarom, 这就是为什么 (Zhè jiùshì wèishéme)

So much trouble yea, but that’s what it’s worth
Steal another pen I gotta write another letter to you
aan jou, cho ban…

To whom it may concern:
She’s such a bobcat, she’s gonna get in the way
She’s such a bobcat, she’s gonna get in the way
I got the answers! But I got nothing to say!
I got the feel good story but I’m excommunicated
She’s a bobcat; she’s gonna get in the way…
She’s such a bobcat! She’s gonna get in the way…
I got the answers, but I got nothing to say…
I got the feel good story but I’m excommunicated, go!

Go…Go……..no!

Don’t say you don’t know why
the glass broke, coz you’re bleedin’
Don’t cry ’cause this big car crashed
Don’t ask why we’re speedin…

She’s such a bobcat, she’s gonna get in the way
She got…
She’s such a bobcat, she’s gonna get in the way
I got…
I got the answers! But I got nothing to say
I got the feel good story but I’m excommunicated, go…

hey hey hey!

Rock.

That’s what I wanted to do, to sound like, to feel. Start off the new tunes  with a bang.

So I picked up my Epiphone Riviera. Red. Always knew this song would be the first to begin the new year. Maybe even before it was written.

The evening was moving to night, that weird purple sky turning black. I started futzing with presets & plugins to get a kinda clean but dirty guitar sound (an ironic/paradoxical description that makes complete sense to guitar players). Added a funky chorus tone, and

just….
began…

to write.

I was an in an early 80s video band mood.

“one more kiss gets a piece of my heart…”

Like that.

Key of B.

Like that.

Didn’t want to sing too high. Wanted it right in my register (Glitter and the Glue had a lot of songs that were hard to sing live).

Lyrics came out quick. Chords were simple. Then—if you look at the lyrics—you’ll see I had a little fun with language (I’ll leave it to you to figure out what that is.)

A few days later, I called up my drummer buddy Greg to work on the song. Had ideas for the drum parts, and so we fleshed through my thoughts. I liked having the time to bang it out before setting up mics; a sort of mini pre-production. The best stuff came out that way, and I was happy.

A few days later, we recorded drum tracks, and Bobcat began.

Cool Geekout Notes

Updated my studio after Glitter & the Glue: new mic pres (couple neves, couple APIs), new I/O (Antelope Audio Orion Studio), and some new mics.

Also, picked up a Fender Custom Deluxe Reverb. Holy crap. That thing.

So, the backstory is I had written this song quickly using some amp plugins and a cool chorus pedal. I tried EVERYTHING I could to reproduce when I went to re-amp (my Mesa Boogie, an old Peavey Amp, even blowing through the Bass Amp). But it all sounded terrible.

Finally, I drove over to a nearby Sam Ash. Brought my guitar with me (the curse of being left handed AND I figured apples to apples). Tried a few Fenders: Princeton, Twin, Blues, Champ….They all had nice tones (well, I didn’t care for the blues for what I was doing, but I’m sure it’d work for many). The twin was way too loud. Hard to get it to warm without killing ears.

But the Deluxe was something special. It will end up on all the tracks released this year. Just blows me away and made me a little annoyed as to why I never bothered to check it out before to buy it…selling everything if need be… in order to do so.

Bobcat is the first one out of the gate recorded with the studio update. Hope you dig.
