Water vs Rock

They say water always wins.

So many small things, they barely seem to register as themselves. Do you ever feel like that? Like you have one big goal (or a few decent sized ones) and all you ever do is roll your gentle wave up against a big damn rock?

That’s how I feel right now. Even the big picture can be overwhelming. Whether it’s watching my wife slowly change (slowly but surely), or doing really small things for Barack’s campaign, or watching an hour’s worth of concert video to sync up for a quick little music vid, there is this sense I get of life completely controlling the tempo. It’s not a matter of feeling helpless. I think it’s more a matter of finding the groove.

Well, maybe there is a small sense of helplessness. I’m usually the type to avoid such dramatic admissions. I just don’t always feel it helps much. It’s not a matter of macho (although, I’m not afraid to admit to the possiblity) but, even when recognized, feeling helpless doesn’t really amount to much.

Who knows. Perhaps the recognition IS what matters. Perhaps it’s like a pilot reading meters and gauges, only when you recognize it can you see, “oh yea, there’s where I have to make a correction” or slight variation.

Usually, I like being the rock. Today, here’s hoping that I’m the water.
