kicking the dirt

Show was fun this weekend. Not as many people as expected, but it was cool to meet the DJ at the radio station (X103.9 FM) that is supporting my music. I’d rate our performance as decent. Still working out the kinks on new songs. Some are really close tho’. One still needs a bit of work (plus there are a couple more we’ve never played out live yet). Mike’s been having guitar problems on stage, so that is part of the kinks that need to be worked out.

Stingers was the club. Located in San Bernardino in the heart of an industrial complex that is both unmemorable and forgetful. But the venue definitely reminds you of the larger than life pool-hall meets band jam watering hole that populates most of the eastern seaboard. It’s a long drive for 45 minute set, but hell, a guy came all the way out from Hollywood to check out the show (his first).

Thought at first we’d be competing with UFC. But that dude got his cranium socked about 5 minutes and well, on with our show.

I got yelled at by security for walking on a table like platform that hugged the circumference of the dance floor. We opened with Hip Hop High. It had been a while and man, I didn’t realize how much I missed playing that song. It’s always been one of my favorites. And to be sure, I believe we played 4 new songs.

Flanders ducked out right after the show. Mike got drunk quickly; he saw some old friends (it’s his neck of the woods), and I’m afraid he just couldn’t help himself. Bob, Steve and I bemusedly ate bar appetizers while taking in the other bands. I think I got home at almost 2 AM. Like I said… long drive.

Shot some vid of the show. I’ll preview it today or tomorrow and try to upload some of it if it doesn’t sound too bad.
