Wow, I did alot yesterday.
Again, not music related, but I’m going to start up pretty strong top of the week, so this weekend is personal time.
Started off by driving to OC to hang out with GoCubbies. The reason for this is power of the automobile sort. That’s right, I mod’ed my car for the 1st time in my life. For the first time, I took out a part and replaced it with a superior one. For the first time, I got near my car’s engine with either a wratchet set or a screw driver. Kids, this is rare. I’ve only installed a stereo in a car and even that I no longer do. Engines are no place for musicians.
Nevertheless, I decided I wanted more horsepower, because despite the fact that I use ALL 4 of my cylinders in my very new Scion XB, it was going to take a little more than that to appease my ‘need for speed.’
So, with gocubbies’ help I installed what’s called an Injen Short Ram Air Intake. yes, it is impressive as it sounds. Car geeks mention something about more air to the fuel equals more HP. I’m not really sure. I do know it looks “chromey” cool and the engine growls between 2nd and 3rd gear. I mean giggle out loud growl. Like, hahahaha, what the fuck was that? hahaha, is that right? hahahahaha! Oh shit!
Took about an hour to install with no problems, and that’s only because we “me-tho-dically” read the instructions so as to not render me stuck behind the Orange Curtain (god forbid).
Took two hours to go home, where, oh yea, turns out I actually did do some music: came up with this idea a while back for a b-day present for Gus (I’m an ass: it was in March, but hey, these things take time). The idea was to write (with intention) 6 or 7 piano pieces for him for his birthday just off the cuff, no rhyme or reason, just cause. Put it to CD and say Happy Birthday.
I think it came out pretty nice. Took more time than I thought and goes by quicker when you listen to it than I thought. Oh well, hope he digs :).
Then it was to the valley for a feast of magical proportions at Gus and his fancy’s place. Smoked Tri-tip, shrimp scampi, a salad that could solve crime, asparagus, and some sorta strawberry choco dessert that was quite unhealthy. We watched the Last Samurai (it wasn’t too bad), and I did my best to inhabit Gus’ new Lazy Boy Recliner for as long as he could stand it. He also showed me his new acoustic and new shotgun, not necessarily in that order.
Turns out I put over 200 miles on my car this day and I certainly seem to have no problem with that.
Bottom line, fulfilling day; wonderful to see friends, eat guilty food in a guilt free environment….and live to tell. You were right Madonna, you were right.
