Highlight of the night was the special guest singing and antics of Sebastian Ciceri.
I had asked him previously to sing back up vocals on Man on a Mission (which many of you have yet to hear). Well, without telling me, essentially what he did was come up on stage just behind me and to the left. I intro’d the song, and the crowd starting laughing in appreciation.
It was then as the songs fell from my mouth that I noticed white pieces of paper feather dancing their way to the floor. He had written all the words on sheets of paper (ala Bob Dylan and INXS) and was showing the words to all (but me) as they sung themselves. It was genius, improvisational and an out and out blast. That is the epitome of live spirit; when you don’t really know what you’re gonna get.
I’m so glad he was there and so glad he did it.
Another highlight was the people who showed up: quite a few from the message board met each other for the first time. I had people from MySpace show up (two whom I had never met).
But the crazy thing was 5 people who drove up from San Diego on a Saturday, and another who TOOK A BUS (!!!!!!) from Santa Barbara. Neither of these instances are easy tasks and they were not taken for granted. I was so humbled by this. I can not even describe the next morning and the feeling of gratitude that circulated my thoughts.
So this is what you get from a Chance show! Come to the next one; you’ll see…
