Chance & the Choir Show, April 8, 2006
The boys played their first Los Angeles Choir show together on Saturday. We all got there early
After soundcheck, all of us (except for Flanders) went over my place to get dressed. Then, quickly, back to the club for…the show.
Between the band before us and our set was the debut of the new video for “Taste of the Good Life.” It’ll be online in about a week or so, and I hope you enjoy it. I couldn’t really tell how the reaction of the crowd was because we were setting up on stage and behind the curtain. But I hope everyone enjoyed it.
Then, show time:
1. Independent (Single 15, out tomorrow)
2. Pause But Don’t Stop
3. RadioFree
4. Forgive+Forget
5. Taste of the Good Life
6. Push
7. Here
8. Hip Hop High (guest vocals: Amy Ciceri)
9. My Oh My
10. Man on a Mission
11. Say What You Will
I really enjoyed the set, and was thrilled that Bob, Mike & Steve were able to finally get through the jitters of having to play in front of the home crowd. The more we play together will only make us a stronger unit, but there’s nothing like #1, shaking off the pressure of 1st impression, and #2, getting past that and just feeling more comfortable in the crowd that supports you. Flanders was his usual self, and now as the senior choir member, was very helpful in getting the guys amped and ready. Not that they needed much help, because when the curtain opened, we quickly discovered the crowd was there in force.
It’s funny, being a musician in Los Angeles can be a truly difficult, and perplexing experience because getting a crowd out on ANY night can be very difficutl. But tonight, our fans came out and really welcomed the new members. It was also great to see so many familiar faces (some notables included Gus & Sebastian, choir members emeriti), but I was also very surprised at how many new ones I saw. And not only that, quite a few up front singing lyrics. People I swear I had never seen before! Nice…
All shows are going to have their slip ups, and we had our share. But all in all, I was very happy with how the guys played. Myself? Well, I’m always my own worst critic, but I’d say it was a pretty good show…
To all who are reading this, a few questions emerged from this show:
#1. Why don’t you guys play more often?
#2. Why don’t you guys play all ages shows?
More shows, with more frequency are on their way. Now that the members are settled in, we plan on playing much more. So stay tuned for that. Re: All ages, I hope the next show will be at an all ages performance. I’ll keep you posted.
We all stayed til the club closed and just hung out with fans and friends. I think I finally went to bed at around 3:30 or so. Brutally tired, I might add.
So, cheers to EVERYONE who came out. I’ll never say this enough: your support really means the world to me and the band.
Webcast
The entire show was webcast on Alternatv, a new upcoming online live concert feed. Here’s the thing: I believe it will only be up for about 48 hours, so definitely listen to it by today:

Like all videos, the sound starts out shaky and then gets a little better. But it’s a 3 camera shoot, and really done professionally.
