You ever get the sense the world is going to hell in a handbasket?
No, let me re-phrase; that’s too obvious, a cliche and not really what I’m trying to say. I guess the point I’m trying to make is that in this downloadable, broadband, get it the instant it’s happening world, that nothing is interesting (or everything is boring)?
We are quickly turning into a thousand channels of nothing.
They say the devil is in the details. I think there are too many details. Too many options, too many mundane facts trumped as drama. Too many reality shows attempting to be realistic and failing. Too many isolated incidents portrayed as life changing events.
Too many people screaming for change and hoping nothing changes. Too many words of advice from charlatans posing as sages. Too many paths to God, and not enough turnstyles. And no time left for the people who have spent their lives wasting away for the next train.
The bad guys win, and the good guys pay taxes. The loser doesn’t matter and the winner seems adrift. The pain comes from something and we’ll listen to a thousand reasons that are nothing close to resembling the truth. You know what I mean. Or do you? Or do I?
Maybe we’ve become so disaffected, disenfranchised, disillusioned, dis…SOMETHING… that we have no time to feel pain anymore. Maybe we miss the days when pain, sadness, drama, life actually meant something. We could own it, feel it, try to understand or learn from it and then move away from it. Move on.
But… if everyone is in pain does that mean that no one is in pain? Have you ever imagined yourself stripped of the things that make you “you”? Ever wondered what it would feel like? To pine for penance? To be able to move on?
Or do you still have the remote control in your hand, click click clicking away?
