Show re-cap

Chance & the Choir / December 7th, 2006 / Whisky a Go Go

We strolled into the Whisky a bit on the early side. Never seen it so quiet or clean in there!

However, Mike (guitar) hit horrible traffic as he comes in from a thousand miles out (ok, not that far, but far enough: Victorville). So, it took a little while before soundcheck.

Recliner gets there about the same time as most of us, and we quickly discover that their singer/guitarist Kevin had his guitar neck snapped in two. In fricking TWO.

They were borrowing our backline, but he fortunately had a second guitar that made the flight ok (from San Francisco). Mike gets there ok, and we all soundcheck, then head out for pre-show pizza with Chance.

Met the boys in Fight from Above just before our show. Super nice guys, and I think we’ll probably be playing with them again.
Recliner slams through their set all good and ends on a great cover of “I am the Walrus” by those crazy ol’ Beatles.

We didn’t actually go on til say 9:50 and proceeded with the following:

Hip Hop High
My Oh My
Forgive+Forget
Life and Life Only
(live debut; Single 16, coming out Jan 2007)
Taste of the Good Life
Push
That Means Everyone
(live debut)
Creep (live debut)
Say What You Will (including: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas)
Man on a Mission
Independent

See what you missed? And man, Independent was a blast to close with!!

Now, of course, my biggest personal critique is that I was still battling laryngitis. I’d put the voice at about 85%. It was all the high stuff that I was having trouble hitting. And then just super raspy on the lower stuff. I’d imagine that most people noticed, which of course bugs the heck out of a perfectionist like me. But alas, I just tried to give as much as I could. Still though… argh!

The boys in the Choir looked like they were having a great time playing and, as well, it was nice to sort of do a different set for a change. I really wanted to get a sense this show was special for us, and hope the fans walked away feeling that.

The cool thing about the crowd too was that it very much seemed we were playing in front of quite a few who had never seen us before. So, I think we walked away with some new fans.

So, here is to new fans!

(Oh wait, another great thing: the official uniform show! So many people wearing the uniform. Easily twice as many as previous shows…)

Also, two things:
Number 1: Check out this photo set by a friend of Fight From Above, a photographer named Christopher Cuttriss:
