My name is Chance. This is my poem for 08-18-2005…

She basically told me I’m not good enough
I had no ideas she thought up to snuff
And no matter how hard I want to impress
The “no’s” sure came quicker than one simple “yes.”

He basically told me, “don’t bother; don’t try”
I had not the skills; I need not apply
If even I volleyed a well crafted smile
The target, elusive; I missed by a mile.

They basically told me they’re so disappointed!
They’d crowned me the king, and said, “You’re anointed!”
But surely they found out I’m none the above
I wasn’t quite what they were thinking of.

I’ll basically tell you, “high hopes” are elusive
The praises you get can be so effusive
But don’t put too much price or too much concern
‘Cause never a lesson, in them, you will learn.
