So, sorry it took a while to get back to you. I’ve been on the phone with Gus all day! Just kibbitzing, that’s all…
The show was a blast. This place is an amazing venue: it looks like a small chapel (in size as well) with church pews for seats, and white candles nearby.
The stage is simple and modest.
Good sound, just warm and intimate…singular focus, really there’s no distractions.
Here’s my set:
Running to Stand Still (U2)
Ambulance Chaser
There Won’t Be a Next Time
Radio Free
Percy’s Song (Sunny Days…)
Forgive+Forget
My Oh My
Hip Hop High
Closer’s Not Good Enough (which has quickly become my defacto closer)
Then all hell broke loose.
People from my fine, tightly knit crowd began shouting Encore! Encore! Well, actually one of them just said “play another.” (Twist my arm…)
That quickly devolved into requests, which I complied by spitting out spirited versions of Journey, Styx, Bob Seger, um, 38 Special, Men At Work etc ad hoc. It was funny, crazy, stupid but, probably more importantly, fun and relaxed. I am glad no A&R people were there. That would have been an interesting thing to explain away. Phhhppppttt ! LOL
So, I can’t wait to play there again. If you want, try to help me pack my next Genghis show and mark July 29th down.
After that, my friends meetbeaton and elmarkogrande joined g-friend and me to a lovely late night Pinks Chili Hot Dogs. You haven’t had Chili Dogs til you’ve had Pinks. And trust me they are better after 11 PM, and best between the hours of 2:30 and 3:00 AM. Just an FYI. It’s been around since the 30’s and is an institution around these parts.
Will the Lakers do it? We shall see. Gus thinks they’ll do it in 7. Win it all. I came up with the brain trust analysis of “that depends on tonight’s game.” Either way, just give the ball to Shaq.
