Firstly, it's been a while since we heard from Chance. The odd scratchings and hints from blog posts have left Chances fans itching for this release for a while. With singles like 'Time Travel', and the "shout it from the rooftops anthem" 'Finger on the Trigger', we've expected a lot, and I can confirm that Chance has filled that expectation, and overflowed the cup of musical joy. 'The Happening' is another of those songs that I quite easy see people singing on the London Underground, much to the other passengers enjoyment, the power of Chances voice explodes into your ears with this track.
Not everything is anthemic, 'When The Cracked becomes the Broke' for me gives me a glimpse of how hard it is to write, record and produce this album, something I'm sure is difficult for a team let alone one person. Not that Chance (and the Choir for that matter) would give up on something they obviously love doing.
Get this album, make it a permenant addition to your iPod, you will not regret it.

Chance's efforts to take recording, mixing and engineering into his own hands paid off; his first solo LP makes his previous solo releases turn pale by comparison. "Happening" perfectly introduces "Ambulance Chaser", a daring song to put in second. "Ripped, Torn, Broken" works up to a sonorous culmination, a structure in many of Chance's songs. "When the Cracked..." lacks the energy to make a worthy contribution to the general flow. Ultimately, the way Chance blends completely different musical and vocal tracks combined with emphases on subtle falsettos, creates a trademark sound consistent across many styles that cannot be put to words otherwise. With a total run time of little over 50 minutes, "Famous Words & Alibis" is a very balanced experience that flies past almost unnoticeable, leaving the listener in an upbeat state and all set to replay the CD once more.

I'm not a professional musical critic, though I am certainly a critic. That being said, not much to be critical of here. The first 10 tracks deliver a great range of well crafted, stick-in-your head-for-days tuneage. The additional remixed bonus tracks are a nice bit of icing on the cake, though the originals are put up front for a reason. This is some serious top-down, volume up work here. Well produced, well written, well done Chance!

I've said more then once that Chance is the future of independent music and this latest release just adds fuel to that fire. With hard pumping summer anthems such as Finger on the Trigger to the soft Beatles like sounds of You this album is one that is going to keep on giving as you listen to it more.
