This is simple. I want to hear you belt out "Ring of Fire" by the late, Johnny Cash. Go get 'em gaucho de fuego.

Check this out. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" by Joy Division. This song has soooo much history, you gotta play it. That's unless you wanna play "Satelite of Love" by Lou Reed. That would be good, too.

I think at this point I'm out of suggestions. There is one song I really want you to do, which I carried in before: Silverchair - Learn to hate

Please please pleeeeeeease put that one in for sure. I have wanted to hear that song done by you for so long.

Ok I lied.

It's just that I on accident came by the following song again:

Dire Straits - Telegraph road

I feel it's a real challenge to cover this 14+ minutes song

So there's number 3 of the lengthy songs. Time to suggest "Shine on you crazy diamond parts 1-5" too?

Will you sing any Dutch songs? I can burn loose on that one...

I was thinking Come As You Are by Nirvana...

others:
* Wish -- NiN
* Be Sweet -- the Afghan Wigs
* Androgynous Mind -- Sonic Youth

and I think whoever recommended Creep by Radiohead is a genius.

those are just songs that have always reminded me of you.

and somebody said surrender. heh. too funny.

Yeah I would feel more for "Come as you are" too, but I frankly would dig "Pennyroyal tea" even more.

And it was Sheeca who recommended Creep and me who agreed with it right on the spot

well yeah. I was giggling because that's the first exposure I ever had to cheap trick... watching them do it live, then recieving intensely hurt/shocked looks from certain bass players who then immediately had to make me the comprehensive cheap trick compilation tape (I should have said cassette.). say that 23 times fast.

another suggestion: In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel

I decided to make a nice overview of the songs suggested here. I took only a few out, and those were all put in by me (i.e. Vanessa Carlton, hehehe). I have my doubts about the ABBA cover but someone mentioned he does a pretty mean cover of that one that "needs to be committed to tape".

The songs with an asterisk (*) have been praised by someone else than the one who suggested it. "Creep" by Radiohead was even hailed twice!

ABBA - Dancing Queen
Afghan Wigs, The - Be Sweet
Alanis Morissette - One hand in my pocket
Alice In Chains - Man In The Box
B-52's, The - Love Shack *
Bjork - Hyperballad
Bush - Jesus Online
Bush - Letting The Cables Sleep
Bush - Testosterone
Candlebox - Change
Cheap Trick - Surrender
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Lookin' Out My Back Door
Depeche Mode - Blasphemous Rumors
Dire Straits - Telegraph Road
Doors, The - Do It
Doors, The - Five To One
Doors, The - The Unknown Soldier
Dramarama - Anything Anything
Duran Duran - The Seventh Stranger
Duran Duran - Too Much Information
Electric Light Orchestra - Evil Woman
Flowered Up - Weekender
Helmet - Unsung *
Jimi Hendrix - Highway Chile
Johnny Cash - Ring Of Fire
Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
KANE - Free
KANE - Can You Handle Me
KANE - where Do I Go Now
Led Zeppelin - Ramble On
Led Zeppelin - Tangerine
Lenny Kravitz - Always On The Run
Lou Reed - Satellite Of Love
Machine Head - Deafening Silence *
Metallica - Fade To Black
Nine Inch Nails - Something I Can Never Have
Nine Inch Nails - Wish
Nirvana - Come As You Are *
Nirvana - Pennyroyal Tea
Nirvana - Radio Friendly Unit Shifter (this one isn't serious right?)
Nirvana - Something In The Way
Opeth - To Bid You Farewell
Owsley - Good Old Days
Pearl Jam - Spin The Black Circle
Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes
Pink Floyd - Hey You
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Prince - My Name Is Prince (My Name Is Chance)
Puddle Of Mudd - Drift & Die
Queensryche - Bridge
Queensryche - Jet City Woman
Radiohead - Creep **
Refreshments - Banditos
Seven Mary Three - Cumbersome
Silverchair - Learn To Hate
Sonic Youth - Androgynous Mind
Staind - It's Been A While
Stir - Spaceman
Sugarcult - bouncin' Off The Walls
Tim Christensen - Caterpillar
U2 - Acrobat
U2 - All I Want Is You
U2 - I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For *
U2 - Running To Stand Still
U2 - Where The Streets Have No Name
Velvet Revolver - Slither
Weezer - Glorious Day *
Weezer - Say It Ain't So
Who, The - Behind Blue Eyes (just voice and piano)
Who, The - It's A Boy
Who, The - Pinball Wizard
Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The - Maps
Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The - Pin

And some vague comments:
"something by Deep Purple"
"something by Dr. Dre"
"something by Snoop Dogg"

Hmmm I never really liked Radio Friendly Unit Shifter, I wouldn't think of it as a "serious song".

Anyway, there are a couple of things I would like to mention in general:
1) Seen the fact that there are quite some votes for Nirvana and U2, perhaps it's a good idea for Chance to hold a pre-vote on those two.
2) I'm surprised nobody has carried in Foo Fighter songs yet
3) Perhaps it's a good idea for people to make suggestions of songs by Deep Purple, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg to at least have some real songs and not those vague "something by"s.
4) I can understand it if Chance is going to have a hard time bringing this list down to a mere 5 songs. It might also be a good idea for him to do a pre-selection (i.e. 15 or 20 songs) and then having us vote for them. The best 4 or 5 will be in a vote again.

I'll leave this stuff over to Chance Wink
